the femur, grazing and shattering the bone, but not injuring the popliteal vessels or the hamstring tendons. Crepitus could be distinctly felt on movement of the limb, and fractured bone was felt with.the probe. The escape of synovial fluid in large quantities a few days later, showed that the fracture extended into the knee-joint, but there was no displacement of the bone or distortion of the limb. The wound was carefully syringed with Carbolic lotion ;
